Paying with ONRAMP: Why You Always See “Crypto” on the Screen (And Why It’s Totally Normal)

When you pay through ONRAMP, the process always works in the same way:

  • You select your payment method (e.g. Debit/Credit Card, PayPal, ACH, Venmo, Revolut).
  • You’re shown a list of trusted payment providers (e.g. MoonPay, Robinhood, Stripe).
  • You select a provider, and ONRAMP redirects you to their secure checkout page.

Let’s assume you want to pay via card and selected MoonPay as payment provider.

On that page, you’ll always see your amount in USD (or local currency) and also a crypto amount (for example, “Buying Ethereum”).

This is where many people pause—but here’s the important truth:

👉 You do not need crypto.
👉 You do not need a wallet.
👉 You are just paying with your regular payment method.

Why Do I See Ethereum (or Another Crypto)?

Payment providers like MoonPay process fiat payments by converting them into crypto in the background. That’s their business model.

For you, it simply means:

  1. You pay in USD (or your local currency) with your chosen method.
  2. The provider converts that payment into crypto.
  3. That crypto is sent directly to the product’s address on our behalf.
  4. You never need to touch or hold the crypto yourself.

Do I Need to Worry About KYC?
